Hell and Back Review

Here is an email I recently recieved that moved me deeply. I am humbled more each day as this story is read and loved. A story that I supposedly created from my own innate brilliance or wit. The more other people are moved by it, the more I feel that I was merely a stenographer. SC Sherman.

The following is from Becca Potter.

Soooo I read the book you sent and finished it in like 4 days, which is pretty incredible as I normally don't even start reading books because I don't have time, but just couldn't put it down. I was totally blessed and encouraged by this book. It was entertaining in that I wanted to follow the story line to the end; but it was also challenging and very thought provoking. It caused me to think deeper and look closer. I loved how you were just reading along and then you would just hit this line that plowed its way straight through your mind and settled in your heart like a penny settles to the bottom of a well. There were profound truths expressed in ways that allowed me a deeper understanding, amazing. I would also say that the depiction of heaven is one that I have embraced in many ways. An excitement has been birthed within me to be fully united with my King that was not there before. There is a glimpse of what it could be like to be free of time, space, distance, physical need and yet seeing that what God created on earth is in fact a type and shadow of that which awaits us in perfection. Tammy and I talked for 20 or 30 minutes tonight about different things that stood out to us, provoked us. Anyway, not that my opinion is of any great literary value but please pass along to Steve that as a sister in Christ I was blessed by the work of the Holy Spirit in him!

Jump In

Jump In!

Of course, everyone has heard that before. Jump in with both feet. I have historically done that several times with a mixture of bravado and sheer terror. I have started several businesses that way and I must say they didn't all work out, but I am still glad I did it. I wasn't glad at the time. It's never fun to suffer the consequences of a decision, but its also not fun to look back and say...I wish I would have done something. That is haunting. Throw yourself in wholeheartedly.

My 12 year old daughter worked the booth with me at the Iowa City Book Festival this last Saturday. She was having a good time listening to my schpeel about my new book and watching what I said as I handed out the free chapter 1 as promotional material. It was funny to her because I had to be aggressive and get out of my booth and physically offer the free chapter to people who would have just walked right by. I was having fun with it, but mostly saying the same thing over and over again.

Her stomach filled with butterflies instantly when I told her I had to go walk around and meet some people from the other booths and I wanted her to cover our booth ALONE! You could see her face whiten a shade as I told her that she was not allowed to let one person walk by the booth without giving them one of the promo chapters. She began to argue and I continued, just say exactly what I've been saying, you'll be fine. She didn't believe me, but I gave her a hug and walked away.

I was a gone for quite a while and when our booth came into view she gave me a big smile. Both glad I had returned and beaming with pride. She had done it!!! She had handed out many a flyer and had a great time. After that we took turns talking to people. I was so very proud of her!

Jump in or get pushed in, both works. If I wouldn't have walked away and left her alone with no options but to strengthen herself and do her best...she would never had that victory.

Whatever, you are waffling about in your life, seriously consider jumping in with both feet! You won't be sorry!

Hell and Back Site

It's finally here!

The official site for SC Sherman is up. The new site http://www.hellandbackbooks.com/ coincides with the release of a new spiritual thriller, Hell and Back The First Death. This book was inspired by a song I listened to in my truck one day. In a flash of inspiration, the story overwhelmed my mind, heart, and soul. I read the Book of Revelation as research and then under the cover of darkness began writing. It poured out of me with passion and fire. I wrote the entire 90,000 word novel in 30 days! Needless to say, I was obsessed! Just ask my wife as she heard about little else, then and since. That has been a few years ago now, but the release is upon us. I look forward to hearing from all of you who love to read a good story full of emotion, uncertainty, love, loss, devotion, risk, and action.

This story follows one mans courage in the face of death and what happens after. He is driven to find the daughter he believes to be lost in hell. Enjoy the story as the unseen realms come to life and death. I encourage you to give it a read, you won't be disappointed.

Also available on the site is Leaving Southfields. This story is what motivated me to write novels and become an author. This one is near and dear to my heart and always will be. I am a direct descendant of the main character and even still share the same last name. It is firmly researched and based on the true story of a young man caught up in the Puritan movement in England. Set in the seventeenth century it chronicles what drove so many young men and women to leave security and safety behind for the wilds of America. Faith in God and a desire to be free from tyranny forced these brave people to risk everything for a chance at freedom.
